THE ALPHA AND OMEGA CAMP INFORMATION

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Camping was invented in 1970 by Norwegian folk dancers because they were shunned by their peers. Today, camping is compulsory in most countries. And, as happens at this time, Alia College is off on another adventure into the woods, deep into the lonely, lonely woods. It will be a time to contemplate, cry, share hopes and listen to the secrets that we left behind so long ago; secrets carried on the wind forever. There will be happy times and times when people will feel awkward and not say very much, and then look at the ground and feel sad. Of course there will be fun, sprinkled on the ground like tears from angels. Enjoy.

Departure from Alia:
Monday 1st December, you will need to be at Alia College, 405 Tooronga Road, Hawthorn East at 9.00am ready to leave by coach at 9.30am. If any student arrives after 9.00am then they will be singled out for the entire camp and made to sing songs about unhealthy things their parents did when they were younger. Such students will also be forced to sleep in shallow water infested with diseased leeches.

Location:
Maldon Caravan and Camping Park
Hospital Street
Maldon VIC 3463

Return to Alia:
Thursday 4th December at 4ish pm. And then things will be as they were before we left; only they will be different. So different that for years to come students will think ‘that 2008 end-of-year Alia camp changed my life. Why?’ And then when their skin has become thin and wrinkled, and the colour has faded from their eyes, they will remember.

Sleeping arrangements: Tents. Tents are the complete opposite of cabins and you will need to bring your own tent, or share with some friends … or people you have seen around the school. Tents should be crowded, poorly ventilated and badly constructed. It would be appreciated if some tents could be painted with lewd images, following the theme Scenes from a Nursing Home.

Activities:

Hiking
Horse Riding
Shopping
Cooking
Cricket
Shower-hair Sculpture
Soccer
Exploring
Outdoor Laser-Tag

THE FOREVER TOMORROW CAMP INFORMATION [Tuesday, 29 January - Friday, 1 February 2008 at Apollo Bay]

20 December 2007

Dear Parents and Guardians,

For some of you this may well be your tenth or eleventh Alia camp. For others this will be your first Alia camp. The following pages contain most of the information you need to know. The beginning-of-the-year camp always reminds me of Eddie. Some of you might remember Eddie, he was a Science /Dance teacher at Alia for a number of years. I liked Eddie, everybody liked Eddie, but one day he left and didn’t come back....I searched for him, we all searched for him, but he was gone. There were meetings, angry words spoken; there were tears, demands, and accusations. As a group we wanted someone to blame, someone we could hold accountable for the sorrow and despair we felt at the loss of our beloved friend. In the end we realised that Eddie had been able to chew through the latch on his cage, maybe he couldn’t find his way back to us or maybe he didn’t want to…I still have his mirror and bell, and a photo of him sitting on my shoulder eating a cracker. Eddie was a good man, morbidly obese and without hands, but a good man.

Departure from Alia:
Tuesday 29th January 2008, you will need to be at Alia College, 405 Tooronga Road Road, Hawthorn East at 9.00am. Any student arriving after 9.00am will have their shoes confiscated and their feet covered in molasses. They will then be forced to walk to camp singing Celine Dion songs.

Location:
Pisces Holiday Park
Phone: 03 5237 6749

Campsite has good mobile coverage.

Return to Alia:
Friday 1st February 2008 at 4.00ish pm. Sometimes it is hard to go back, to return to the “normal” way of things. Following camp there will be a nine-hour compulsory meeting where everybody must speak in the third-person, using words of two syllables or less.

Sleeping arrangements:
This will be a tent camp. Everybody needs to bring a tent, or arrange to sleep in a tent that belongs to someone else. Tent sleeping arrangements can be made during the two days at school before camp. A tent is a holiday celebrated in Vietnam every year. There are parades and fireworks. It really is lovely.

Activities:

Kayaking
Snorkelling
Surfing
Shopping
Cooking
Survivor: (teams of students will fight for chocolate and the fragile approval of their peers.)
Soccer

Le’Tesha., Ben.N, Natasha, Antonia, and an unsubstantiated sighting of Scott. P.S. On the previous camp, some swimwear was left behind. It is a snug fit, but you can’t tell in the photos.
